Y' parts with Bill and Ted themselves traveling through time and encountering various different versions of themselves are actually pretty good and funny. Unfortunately, that's not all this movie is. A good chunk of this movie is also devoted to Bill and Ted's daughters, and these parts are AWFUL. No, I'm not some blue balled weirdo about to go into some anti-woman rant like some of these other reviews, I just found the actresses doing bad impressions of Bill and Ted and basically just being carbon copies of them was not very entertaining. In fact it was downright obnoxious (not because they are women, but because they are literally just inferior copy/pastes of already existing characters and so serve no real purpose other than to be walking plot devices) Some of the historical musicians they meet were pretty awful too. Louie Armstrong in boy, I think they're gonna catch some flak over that depiction. br> The production values are all so embarrassingly cheap too. The future and the effects in general just look like a low level sci fi channel tv movie. It seems to get worse as the story progresses too, as if you can see their already limited budget draining away in real time.
Boy, let me tell overall plot is not great either. You're going to see exactly how it's all going to end within the first 10-15 minutes. I won't go into the spoilery details, but it's painfully predictable and disappointing.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter give it their best and there are some genuinely funny parts with them when they're given a chance, but this is really only half their movie. The other half without them almost feels like a separate movie. One full of bad acting and writing, and zero laughs.
Anyone giving this a 10/10 is absolutely out of their minds on some weird nostalgia high. It's watchable and not completely devoid of entertainment, as some of these equally exaggerative 1/10 reviews would have you believe, but it's not even close to a great movie. It's not even good. It's a big fat meh that no one in their right mind is going to remember a month from now. It's a 5/10 at best, and even that's probably overly generous due to nostalgia.
